For births and baptisms see Records of Hanson Place M. E. Church, Brooklyn, N. Y., and also the Family Bible. My father William Kuhns was a man of considerable ability as an inventor. He early learned the trade of blacksmith, but later became prominent in the early history of photography in this country. He manufactured the first albuminized paper made in America. Having thus brought my ancestry down to the present, it will be well to turn back for a while and trace back to the old world one or two lines I have not yet touched on. This has a certain romantic interest of its own.-Ve have seen that my great-grandfather Frederick Brown married Susanna Grotf. Her family was one of that old Swiss Colony which settled along the banks of the Pequea, in 1709, and which came for the most part, from the cantons of Berne and Zurich in Switzerland. In the beautiful valley of the Emmenthal, Berne, we see to-day the well-known Lancaster County names of Aeschliman, Boss, Kindig. Brechbiihl, Bauman, Neuenschwander, Haldiman, Ziircher, Zoug and many others, while in similar manner we find in Ziirich. and the outlying villages along the lake, whence so many Lancaster families came, the names of Landis, Ehrisman, Brubacher, Wissner, Kagi, Groff, Meili, -'idmer, Niissli, etc. My...
